Londyn's Story

Londyn's Story

Our daughter, Londyn Eva, is the reason Spica Life was created. She was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at four months old, and we chronicled her story as we lived it. These blog posts were a great way to update friends and family, and ended up being a way we connected with a lot of fellow spica families. We hope reading her story will encourage future spica families to know they are not alone, and that they can indeed overcome these similar challenges. Thank you for following our journey!

We returned to our ortho for Londyn’s 6 week post Pavlik harness x-ray…

More

This week was pretty much figuring things out- how she likes to sleep, how she likes to sit up, do tummy time, bathe her, etc…

More

This week was a bit of a haze as Londyn was not sleeping well at all…

There are some things I want to say to you, spica cast…

More

Londyn has been totally content despite her cast, and doing many of the same things she did pre-cast.

More

The good news is I’m very proficient at cleaning diarrhea out of a spica cast now!

More

I’ve been dragging my feet writing this post, because cast change was unexpectedly and deeply difficult.

More

After our emotional cast change, it was nice to have a relatively uneventful week to process everything and get back into our normal.

More

Let me tell you, THIS CHAIR is my life! Multiple times throughout the day she is happy to hang out in it.

More

How did we fare with a baby in a spica cast, you ask? The whole trip was actually not too bad!

More

It’s amazing how “normal” the spica life becomes.

More

It has been odd to mentally chronicle Londyn’s growth and development when three quarters of her body is in a cast.

More

We went into today’s operation not knowing if it would be cast change or cast removal.

More

On Monday morning, as I was changing Londyn’s diaper, I noticed some redness around Londyn’s arthrogram site.

More

I’ve noticed when we’ve seen family with Londyn in the cast, there is a small period of adjustment for them.

More

We have been “in the trenches” this week with our spica baby.

More

Dear Londyn, how can I explain that though I am here to teach you, it is you who has been teaching me this past year?

More

We are down to single digits for our cast removal countdown. I am so excited that I can barely let myself think about it!

More

I can scarcely believe that as I write these words, my baby is no longer in a spica cast. It is difficult to explain how it feels living for 18 weeks in a situation you cannot change and wish you could.

More

It’s amazing how fast you can forget hard things once you are on the other side.

More

Londyn has been learning new things everyday, and I’m so excited to report that she is now CRAWLING!

More

We had the privilege of walking in the 39th annual Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk to benefit Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin this past weekend.

More

DDH has given me the deepest appreciation for the little miracles that make up my daughter’s life.

More

The other day I was finishing Londyn’s baby calendar when I realized that she only has 3 milestone stickers left to reach!

More

Londyn decided she is ready to MOVE! She began walking a few months ago now and never looked back.

More

All I can give my children is the best gifts a parent can – roots to steady them and wings to fly with.

More

Londyn, you have overcome so much already in your short life; your strength and determination are awe-inspiring.

More

We thank God for this blessing after a difficult journey. We hold our babies close, knowing that every minute with them is a gift.
