Spica Week 7: Back Into Our Groove

After our emotional cast change, it was nice to have a relatively uneventful week to process everything and get back into our normal. Of course every spica cast will be different, and this one is a little tighter on Londyn’s legs and lower abdomen, but she hasn’t skipped a beat. It has been a relief to see her completely comfortable and acting like herself in this cast, just like she was with the pink one. Her new cast was pretty well done with no sharp edges rubbing on her, but we did some petaling of moleskin on the top of the cast just to be safe.

On my DDH mom support group, some of the moms recommended this baby carrier that works well with the spica. I was bummed that our ergo doesn’t work with her cast, so I ordered it on Amazon. It’s only been a week but I already can’t believe I did six weeks without it! It’s just so nice to not have to bring the stroller, and not kill my back and wrists holding her. (This cast seems much heavier! It may just be that Londyn has grown also.)

I used the carrier for a Target trip as well as a few doctor’s appointments and Londyn loves being close to me and I love that most of her weight is being held by my legs and hips and not my back. We also had our first meal out in a sit-down restaurant since the spica! We brought our booster seat to put on a chair and it worked perfectly for Londyn. This girl is SO my daughter, she is perfectly content if you give her snacks and food so she sat happy for the whole dinner! A lot of people commented on how cute she and Grayson were, and the evening out just made me remember how blessed we are.

We may not be loving every aspect of life right now, but we have each other and there’s no reason we can’t make memories and enjoy life even with the spica being part of it all.
