Biggest Lesson Learned:

Kids are so resilient! Sometimes the hip journey is harder for the parents than it is for the kids.

What Do You Wish You Knew:

My hip baby had little spasms for the first few days which were quite uncomfortable for him.

Favorite Gear or Must Have Item:

Nappies and sanitary pads. 
Baby bean bag. 
A high chair that can fit legs out the side. 

Final Thoughts or Advice:

Master the nappy combination early. Once the cast gets smelly, it's really hard to get rid of it. 
The right nappy/pad combination will depend on the cast, but this is what worked for us: 

Pad sideways up the back (across the top of the bum to catch any poo leaks up the back) 
Small nappy inside the cast. 
Pad tucked along the crotch of the cast on either side and then another one tucked up the front. This kept the small nappy in place and caught any leaks. 
Then large nappy over the top. 

So that's a total of 2 nappies and 4 pads. You could usually reuse the pads and top nappy for a few nappy changes though.
