Favorite Spica Journey Memory:

My favorite memory so far, as our journey is ongoing, has to be when my baby crawled.

Biggest Lesson Learned:

My biggest lesson learned has to be that children are resilient and as parents we are stronger than we think!

What Do You Wish You Knew:

I wish I knew about the muscle spasms after an open reduction. I didn't expect these and they were hard to watch.  Don't worry, they don't last long.

Favorite Gear or Must Have Item:

Must have item for us is the Microlite buggie.  Fabulous pram and perfect for our spica.

Final Thoughts or Advice:

When we were first told about the spica my heart broke, why my baby? My little girl was walking and running around. To be taken off her feet and put into spica was the end of the world in my head. Now 4 weeks in, the spica is part of our routine. My baby is still happy and spica life isn't as daunting as I first thought. Some days are harder then others and nights can be long, but always keep in mind why you're doing this: the future.

It's hard to know what to expect when you're waiting for spica life to start. I found YouTube really helps. I searched how to change a baby's nappy in a spica cast and got some great tips from those videos. Don't worry about little accidents. In our first week in the spica, we had a few little accidents. We have used a cast cooler, talc, and a hair dryer on a low setting to help dry it out.

Try and take every day as it comes and remember, mums know best!
