“Nothing will prepare you for the shock after the initial treatment. There are times I felt like a robot. Sleep deprivation, emotions are all apart of it…Brooklyn has made us better parents and blessed to be apart of this wonderful community.”
“Your child will surprise you and just when you think you couldn't love them anymore, you do. It still amazes me that my baby taught ME so many life lessons during her time in the spica cast.”
“Take it one day at a time and everything else will fall into place! Kids are amazing and the way they adapt is incredible! It was joyous to watch how proud of herself she was when she learned to do new things in the cast like crawl, climb stairs, and even stand. The hardest part was constantly keeping Kacey entertained! We did lots of reading over and over again which ended up really increasing her vocabulary!”
"The day after the cast went on she was crawling around, like nothing had happened. After awhile she learned to stand in the cast too!"
"I spent so much time worrying my daughter would be miserable, we couldn't go do anything and she would be fussy and hard to handle. None of this happened! She was still her same happy self. Life continued as normal. Babies are so incredibly resilient!"
Favorite Spica Journey Memory: "Seeing her smile and play while in her cast. It made me realize that this journey isn't so bad after all. She was happy and that's all that mattered."
"There is light at the end of the tunnel. Stay strong, stay positive, keep your head up high. You are doing everything you can to make sure your baby's hips become healthy we are all here for support!"
"Accept any help whenever it is offered to you. This is a long, hard journey."
Favorite Spica Journey Memory: "When my daughter first rolled over in her cast. I knew from that moment that nothing was going to hold her back!"
"Never give up. This is hard but it will make you stronger and you won't take the simple things in life for granted!"
"It is comforting to know that after going through our hip journey, as a family we can get through anything life throws at us. It has made us a stronger unit. Quinn is capable of anything."
"Only another hippy family can truly get what you're going through so join a support group, even if it's just online."
"Trust your gut instinct. If you think something isn't right with the cast, don't be afraid to get checked."
Biggest Lesson Learned: "Never underestimate the power of teamwork during a blow out!"
"Do Not let this journey stop you from living life. You will have to adjust, as will your child, but the experience has taught me patience and understanding."
"I learned how capable we, as a family, are of handling challenges. This was very unexpected and new territory, but my husband and I stepped up to the plate and got through every day for our daughter. We're capable of more than we knew."
"It only took 3 days and James was already unbothered by the cast! He loves music, and watching him bang his hands on his cast and still try to dance by rocking his upper body back and forth with a huge smile warmed our hearts!"
"Your biggest spica fears may come, but you will conquer them."
"The time in the cast went by quickly, it was easier than we thought it would be, and it definitely grew us in our faith to trust that God was working everything out for the good of all of us!"
